Workshop: Impact of welfare reform on Scottish social services workforce

An IRISS and CCPS commissioned research project examining how welfare reform is impacting on the social services workforce are hosting a workshop next month.

Participants from organisations in the voluntary, care & support and housing sector are invited to contribute their experiences and reflect on the outcomes of the research at the event on Wednesday 23rd April in Edinburgh.

The results from the workshop will form part of the recommendations that will be used to help the sector prepare for the impact of welfare reform.

The project is interested in exploring how frontline staff, operational managers and HR professionals are experiencing changes to their role as the reforms to welfare begin to take effect – for example, the impact on staff roles, welfare and wellbeing; and the impact on staff training and support needs.

The project also aims to:

  • Provide a more in-depth understanding of how welfare reform is affecting service demand and delivery for third sector social and housing care providers
  • Help inform future practice and support social care and housing support providers to effectively prepare for, and respond to, welfare reform
  • Help inform future policy in this area.
