Cornerstone appoints new HR director

Leading Scottish social care charity, Cornerstone, has appointed Mairi Martin as its new Director of Human Resources and Learning and Development.
Mairi was previously the Executive Director for Resources at Irvine Housing Association and then the Riverside Group.

She will be based at Cornerstone’s Glasgow office but will have responsibility for its team across Scotland, including the North-east and Dundee.

Having studied HR at Strathclyde University as well as gaining qualifications in IT and project management,  Mairi aims to use her many years of experience to support and develop Cornerstone’s 1,700 employees and 300 volunteers.

She hopes to make a positive difference to the Cornerstone workforce and give volunteers an experience they will find rewarding and very worthwhile.

“I have a wealth of knowledge and experience in both public and private sectors and am exceptionally enthusiastic and love working,” said Mairi. “My aim is to build on the existing good HR practices focusing on improving employee engagement, growing talent in the organisation and making Cornerstone one of the best places to work in Scotland.”

Away from work, Mairi is very active in her community and is a member of the local primary school’s parents’ association. She is also a leader of the local Girl Guiding Rainbow pack.

Mairi, who is married with two children, thoroughly enjoys getting on her bike and regularly cycles the Pedal for Scotland for charity.

Edel Harris, Cornerstone’s Chief Executive, added: “We are pleased to welcome Mairi to the Cornerstone team and believe her experience will prove a real asset in developing our workforce.”

Cornerstone provides care and support services for more than 2,000 adults, young people and children across Scotland who live with learning disabilities, physical disabilities, mental health problems and other support needs.
