Aberdeen appoints new director for Social Care and Wellbeing

Aberdeen City Council has appointed Liz Taylor as new director to run the city’s Social Care and Wellbeing services.
Liz will take up the position at the end of September when current director Fred McBride leaves to take up a new post in Ireland.

She has worked for the City Council for more than seven years as a Head of Service in the Social Care and Wellbeing directorate.

Prior to joining the council she worked with Aberdeenshire Council and Grampian Regional Council, where she undertook a variety of strategic roles including a three-year secondment to Audit Scotland and the Scottish Executive working with a national remit.

During her time at Aberdeen City Council she has undertaken the Chief Social Work Officer role and most recently Head of Older People and Rehabilitation Services.

She said: “I am delighted to be taking on this new role and building upon the very positive legacy of Fred McBride.

Social work services are vital to the wellbeing of the city and provide essential help for some of our most vulnerable citizens.

“I and my team will be working extremely hard to ensure children’s services, adult services and older people’s services meet the needs of those who depend on them.”

Social Care and Wellbeing convener Councillor Len Ironside CBE said: “We went through an extremely vigorous selection process to make sure we chose the best person for this very challenging job.

“Liz has all the qualities we were looking for and shone out from a very high-quality field.

“She will be working with a very high-calibre management team and extremely able staff to deliver the best services we possibly can for the people of Aberdeen.”
