New health & socail care centre for Glasgow’s southside

A BRAND new health and social care centre is set for East Pollokshields thanks to a joint effort by the NHS and Glasgow city council.

Work is due to start in autumn 2013 and the facility is scheduled to open in summer 2014, located on the red blaes pitch on McCulloch Street, adjacent to the community centre.

The facility will house two GP practices, district nurses, health visitors and a health shop, as well as social work offices.

Glasgow southside MSP Nicola Sturgeon told The Extra: “This is a fantastic development for Pollokshields.

“It will provide access to health and social care services under one roof and a state-of-the-art building that — together with the new Glendale primary — will also contribute to the physical regeneration of Pollokshields.”

An NHS spokeswoman said: “There is a huge need to improve the primary care and community services in the Pollokshields area, and providing a new health and social care centre is crucial to us achieving that aim.

“We have undertaken some initial design work involving GPs. The next stage is a formal planning application, being submitted for approval.”
