Aberdeen elderly care plan progresses

Plans to put elderly care services in Aberdeen under the control of an ‘arms-length’ company have taken a step forward.

Councillors agreed the issue should be discussed at the next meeting of the Social Care and Welfare Committee.

A report had asked members to approve the final business case for the firm, to be called Bon Accord Care.

The company – wholly owned by the council but run at arms-length – would employ 647 staff.

Many would transfer over from the council itself.

Some service organisations have expressed concern.

The report said the company should turn in a profit of £2.2m in five years.
