Care worker who showed up drunk at children’s home is spared the sack
A BOOZY care worker who turned up drunk at a children’s home has dodged the sack. Martin Phillips punched and slapped one child, put another in a headlock and sat on a staff member.
But watchdogs decided not to ban him and gave him a warning.
Phillips was also given a final written warning by his employers West Dunbartonshire Council.
The Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC) were told how the care worker turned up drunk at Craigellachie children’s home in Clydebank.
His behaviour caused children at the home to join in with the “antics,” although he was not supposed to be on shift.
Phillips swore at a child and tried to put her in a headlock, before saying she was “too fat”.
He then slapped another kid and wrestled a colleague before sitting on her.
The SSSC said Phillips had an unblemished record and gave him a warning, which will stay on his records for four years.
