£700,000 Mornay Way day centre opens in Shotts
OLDER people in Shotts are enjoying excellent new day services – with the opening of a £700,000 facility. The integrated day service at Mornay Way is run by North Lanarkshire Council and NHS Lanarkshire and provides a range of social care and health services for people over the age of 65 years who have complex needs.
Depute Provost and Shotts councillor Jim Robertson cut a ribbon to officially open the service.
He said: “This is an outstanding service which is already delivering real benefits to local people and their carers.
“It offers a variety of health and social care services provided by the council and NHS Lanarkshire all under one roof, so there’s no need for people to make a number of appointments at different locations.
“This is directly helping vulnerable older people to live independently in their own homes and avoid unnecessary admissions to hospital.”
Added Councillor Robertson: “Across North Lanarkshire our investment in day services like this one in Shotts is transforming the care and support older people receive and helping improve their quality of life.”
Social work and health staff provide services including individual assessments, treatment and therapeutic activities with the aim of assisting people to continue living within their own homes and communities.
The day service also provides a valuable and essential service for carers enabling them to continue with their caring role.
