New operators for Dumbarton and Helensburgh care homes found
NEW operators are set to take control of two axe-threatened care homes. Castle View in Dumbarton East and Helensburgh’s Balvaird were both at risk of closing following the collapse of Southern Cross, which ran both properties.
But last week, two firms were identified to take over the homes from October 31.
Court Cavendish will run Castle View and OrchardCareHomes.com will be responsible for Balvaird.
The news has been welcomed by West Dunbartonshire Council who are working closely with COSLA and Social Care and Social Work Improvement Scotland (SCSWIS) throughout the process.
A spokeswoman said: “Once approved by SCSWIS, the council, residents of the home and their families will all need to be satisfied that the new operators will continue to deliver the standards of care we expect for the residents whose care and accommodation we fund.
“The news that a prospective new operator for the home has been identified should provide some increased security over the continuity of care for the existing residents and also reduce the prospect of the home having to close.”
And Argyll and Bute Council, which covers Helensburgh and Lomond, has vowed to be involved in the transition process.
A spokeswoman for the authority said: “We have had confirmation of the new landlords and operators and plan to meet with them prior to the assignation of contracts and transfer of services.”
