Social worker Reginald Turk is struck off register after being found guilty of misconduct

A fomer Fife social worker has been struck off the register after the Scottish Social Services Council found him guilty of misconduct.

Reginald Turk, who was leader of the Kirkcaldy child assessment team, appeared at a three-day hearing of the SSSC in Dundee last week.

Yesterday an SSSC spokeswoman said the decision of the conduct sub-committee was to remove Mr Turk from the register.

This means that he is not allowed to work in social care or social work in any capacity, although after three years he can apply to the SSSC to re-register. He can also appeal against the SSSC verdict to the sheriff court.

Mr Turk faced six complaints that he failed in his professional duties as leader of the Kirkcaldy child assessment team.

These involved his failure to ensure the duty allocation system worked effectively, failed to oversee the work of his team to identify serious and problematic cases and failed to ensure adequate systems were in place to manage case closures.

The complaints also involved his actions in a particular case, as a result of which it was claimed that three children were put at risk of harm.
