Probe into Scots care home after five staff suspended

A PROBE has been launched into a care home where five staff have been suspended. Its future is under threat after inspectors described facilities and management there as “weak”.

The residential home hit the headlines last year when a female patient was given diluted cleaning fluid to drink after the container got mixed up with a juice bottle.

The Care Commission carried out the unannounced visit which exposed the failings last November and will revisit the home soon to check on its progress.

It is understood senior management at Alan McLure House, Glenrothes, Fife, are among those suspended.

A commission spokesman said last night: “We are aware of a number of recent issues concerning poor standards of care being provided. Our inspection report awarded the service grades of two (weak) and we demanded the service provider immediately address these concerns.”

The spokesman said the home’s bosses produced an action plan to tackle the problems but it “did not reflect the urgency required”.

The report also noted there had been “extremely limited action” in response to concerns of residents’ relatives and that the home ran out of medication on one day.

The home is one of 10 council-run facilities being looked at in a review.

A spokeswoman for Fife Council said: “We are working with the Care Commission to ensure standards are maintained.”
