Midlothian day centre set to close for revamp
A LOTHIANS day centre for adults with learning disabilities is to close while a £220,000 refurbishment is carried out.
The Cherry Road Resource Centre will shut its doors on January 10 while a complete revamp of all the bathrooms, hot water system and toilet provisions is carried out.
New flooring in much of the centre and a multi-purpose room will also be installed while an upgrade of the electrics will be added.
The council said the modernisation would put the users at the centre of the service by creating a plan which meets the needs of the individual rather than people being fitted into the available services.
A modernisation programme is already under way to improve the day services for people with learning disabilities in Midlothian.
Councillor Jackie Aitchison, Midlothian Council cabinet member for social work said: “A commitment has been made to ensure that where day service provision is offered to support families that there will be no reduction in service, although some of that service may be delivered in a different way.”
