Inquiry into Erskine Bridge plunge deaths

A fatal accident inquiry is to be held into the deaths of two teenage girls who jumped from the Erskine Bridge.

Neve Lafferty, 15, from Helensburgh, and Georgia Rowe, 14, from Hull, jumped into the River Clyde on 4 October last year, in an apparent suicide pact.

Both girls had been attending an independent unit – the Good Shepherd Centre in Bishopton, Renfrewshire – located a few miles from the bridge.

A preliminary hearing has been set for 20 December at Paisley Sheriff Court.

A date for the inquiry will be set once the sheriff is satisfied that all parties are prepared.

A Crown Office spokesman said: “We will continue to keep the families advised of the status of the case and any future developments.”

The Good Shepherd Centre cares for young girls referred by local authority educational and psychological services, social work departments and children’s hearings.
