Jail for woman who conned nursing home pensioner
A FRAUDSTER who befriended a nursing home resident to steal her cash was jailed for nine months yesterday. Cleaner Julie Lamb, 35, stole the pensioner’s PIN and bank card while working at Aberdeen’s Rubislaw Care Home last year.
She used 87-year-old Isobel Spalding’s account at Asda and bought goods worth £201.22 on December 2. She then visited stores in Aberdeen five times in two days and ran up a bill of £868.66.
The scheming crook also went to AB10 and JD Sports and ordered £1415.57 worth of goods. Lamb, of Aberdeen, admitted a string of fraud charges, including taking £1972 from a dental practice where she also worked as a cleaner.
Aberdeen Sheriff Court heard Lamb, a Tesco shelfstacker, was £70,000 in debt. But, jailing her for nine months, sheriff Annel la Cowan told her: “I have no sympathy for the situation you find yourself in.
“In light of your record, your reaction to difficulties is to steal other people’s money.”
