New Aberdeen firm takes on axed Glencraft staff
A NEW Aberdeen business is to be launched – using workers from the closed-down Glencraft factory. Aberdeen social care provider Cornerstone is creating an upholstery business with two former Glencraft staff.
The new Aberdeen social enterprise, branded Bennachie, will start trading next month.
Glencraft, in Aberdeen’s Wellington Road went into administration last year with the loss of more than 50 jobs, after a subsidy was axed by Aberdeen City Council.
Mark Rait, head of marketing and enterprise for Cornerstone in Aberdeen, said: “We were involved in discussions earlier in the year surrounding the difficulties facing Glencraft and are delighted to be in the position, via our new upholstery business, to employ two of their former staff.”
“We are proud of the ethos of partnership working in Aberdeen that has enabled us to move so quickly.”
Aberdeen’s Glencraft bed-making business is due to be relaunched as Glencraft (Social Enterprise) Ltd with support from the private sector and Scottish Government.
