Elderly and their carers given £380k boost for short breaks
MORE community short breaks are being provided to older people and their carers in Edinburgh. Nearly £380,000 has been allocated for additional short breaks for older people in the city – funded by the Scottish Government and Edinburgh City Council’s Older People’s Capacity Plan.
Some of the short breaks people could buy include a care home break closer to friends so visits are possible, a holiday with relatives or a bed and breakfast weekend with support workers or relatives.
Councillor Paul Edie, health and social care leader for the city council, said: “People using the service and their carers have told us they want more choice and flexibility and this additional funding will allow that.
“Short breaks provide a valuable and much-needed service to people across the city as caring for someone is a demanding, and difficult job.”
