Falkirk housing and social services councillor quits his post
THE VETERAN councillor in charge of a cash-strapped department has quit his post. Gerry Goldie has told Labour colleagues he is giving up the role as convener of the troubled housing and social services committee on Falkirk Council.
He admits it wasn’t an easy decision but said he was no longer able to continue with the restraints being put on local authorities by the SNP-led Scottish Govern-ment.
The move comes as councils across Scotland are braced for massive cuts to their budgets.
There is every likelihood that Falkirk will need to ditch its policy of free personal care for all those in need and introduce some level of charging, something Councillor Goldie has long made clear he cannot advocate.
