New family centre to be built in Drumchapel
A new specially designed child and family centre is to be built in Drumchapel in Glasgow. Nearly £6million is to be invested in the centre which will offer a one-stop-shop combination of services for families with disabled children.
The facility will serve families in west Glasgow and also cover parts of east and west Dunbartonshire, a population of around a quarter of a million.
The majority of the funding has come from the Scottish Government, with the rest from West Glasgow Community Health and Care Partnership. A grant is also to come from the Yorkhill Children’s Foundation.
Allison Morrison, team leader for Community Child Health, said in a statement: “This centre will be totally integrated with services including social work, doctors, physiotherapy, occupational therapists and mental health professionals.
“The quality of the facilities for children, young people and their families will be terrific and certainly nothing that I have ever seen before.
“It will be primarily for children and young people with all kinds disabilities and developmental difficulties, and will cater for babies right up to 18-year-olds.
“However we also see it providing services for many other groups of children and young people in need including services to support families.
“Families will be able to come to the one address and see a whole range of different professionals who will be working side by side to help and support them.”
Councillor Paul Carey said: “I am delighted to see this flagship development get under way. It has been made possible by all partners – the council, the NHS and community planning – working together to create first class services for children and families in Drumchapel. This is a perfect example of partnership working delivering for the community.”
Matt Ford, head of Children’s Service for the care partnership, added: “The new child and family centre is a key development for the integration of West Glasgow Community Health and Care Partnership’s children’s services and will offer a new enhanced level of service for our children and young people.”
