Care Commission Announce Re-Appointment Of Jane Saren

Minister for Public Health Shona Robison today announced the re-appointment of a non-executive member to The Scottish Commission for the Regulation of Care.

Ms Jane Saren runs her own Edinburgh-based business, providing consultancy on public policy, communications, research and management. She is a non-executive Director of Lothian Buses and a Trustee of the Essentia Foundation. Her previous roles include Purchasing and Commissioning Manager in Lothian Social Work Department and founding Managing Director of the Scottish public affairs consultancy, GPC Scotland. She does not hold any other ministerial appointments.

This re-appointment will be for a period of three years from November 1, 2008 to October 31, 2011.

This post is part time with a time commitment of five days per month for which the annual remuneration is £7,913.

The Care Commission opened for business in April 2002 to regulate care services throughout Scotland with the aim of improving their quality. Some 500,000 of the most vulnerable people in our society currently use the care services provided by over 100,000 people employed in the social care workforce.

The quality of these services is important for everyone. The establishment of the Care Commission has put in place a new, unified and effective system of care regulation that puts the safety and well-being of people who use care services at its heart.

This Ministerial re-appointment was made in accordance with Commissioner for Public Appointments in Scotland (OCPAS) Code of Practice.

All appointments are made on merit and political activity plays no part in the selection process. However, in accordance with the original Nolan recommendations, there is a requirement for appointees’ political activity (if any declared) to be made public. Within the last five years, Ms Saren has canvassed on behalf of the Labour Party.
