Two Suspended Over Glasgow Care Home Abuse Claims
A nursing home has suspended two members of staff over allegations that they were abusing residents.
Managers at Kerrvale Nursing Home in the Bridgeton area of Glasgow launched an investigation into the claims last month.
It is understood the allegations do not involve sexual abuse.
A spokesman for the Southern Cross, which owns the home, confirmed the two staff members had been suspended while the inquiry was carried out.
Southern Cross states on its website that it is largest provider of care homes in the UK. The firm has a total of 727 care homes and employs about 41,000 people.
The spokesman said: “An investigation is taking place concerning the alleged conduct of two members of staff who are currently suspended pending inquiries.
“We take allegations of abuse very seriously and we are keeping the Care Commission and the city council fully informed.”
Separate complaint
Kerrvale Nursing Home provides care for elderly people with physical frailty and dementia as well as younger people with physical disabilities.
Care Commission regional manager Gill Swapp said management at the home had taken the appropriate action.
Ms Swapp said: “The allegations of abuse at Kerrvale Care Home were made directly to the home management.
“They took the appropriate action by informing us immediately, launching a full investigation and suspending a number of staff at the centre of the allegations.
“To date they have kept us fully involved at every stage of their proceedings and we are satisfied the matter is being dealt with appropriately, while considering the safety and well-being of residents.”
Ms Swapp added that the commission was investigating a separate complaint, from the family of a Kerrvale resident who died earlier this year.
She said: “The complaint was lodged with us last week and while the matter is still being investigated it would be inappropriate to comment further.”
