Highland Home Carers Told Jobs Not At Risk

A council has reassured hundreds of home carers that there jobs will not be lost by plans to modernise services. Margaret Davidson, chairwoman of Highland Council’s housing and social work, said the authority did not “anticipate redundancies”.

According to the council’s figures, there are about 685 carers providing services to 1,789 people over the age of 65 in the Highlands.

The council said it wanted to deliver more “robust” and “consistent” care.

Ms Davidson said: “We have ambitious plans to modernise our care at home services to provide more care to our elderly at home, particularly at evening, overnight and at weekends.

“Our home carers do a great job and we are now offering new and improved terms and conditions, meaning guaranteed hours, better pay and more support, and opportunities for promotion.”
