Campaign Targets Mental Health
A CAMPAIGN has been launched to try to protect workers from having to take time off because of mental health problems.
Healthy Working Lives’ Save 30 Days initiative focuses on the economic benefits of managing and supporting employees’ mental health.
Each year, one in four Scots experience a mental health problem and takes on average 30 days off work, costing Scottish companies more than £350 million.
Nina Torbett, of the Scottish Centre for Healthy Working Lives, said: “Employers have made significant progress in dealing with work-related stress.
“However it is becoming more apparent that the wider issues around mental health, such as stigma, discrimination and the most common reasons for sickness and absence, anxiety and depression, are proving more of a challenge to managers and employees alike.”
