Helping Hand For North-East Cancer Patients
A new service has been launched in three north-east towns to help cancer sufferers cope with the practical and financial implications of the disease.
Macmillan Cancer Support, the Pension Service and the Citizens Advice Bureau have joined forces to create a new agency offering advice on benefits, debt and housing to those with cancer.
The Grampian Macmillan Partnership is now available at three north-east hospitals, and patients who are being overwhelmed by the financial implications of cancer are urged to come along.
Project co-ordinator Kerry Townsley said: “The financial costs associated with a cancer diagnosis can have an enormous impact on the lives of those affected.
“We have now expanded to offer our outreach services in seven Aberdeenshire hospitals, including Peterhead, Fraserburgh and Banff.
“We hope this will encourage more people living in these towns to make an appointment and receive the help and advice which they may need.”
The sessions take place at Peterhead Hospital every Tuesday, Fraserburgh Hospital on the second and fourth Thursday of every month, and Chalmers Hospital in Banff on the first and third Thursday of each month.
Appointments are available from 9.30am until 2pm. For more information contact 01779 481881.
