Firstbus Faces £200,000 Claim From Injured Social Worker Consultant

A social work consultant is claiming £200,000 for being knocked down by a bus, while her husband is seeking an additional £100,000 in damages for witnessing the accident.

Elsie Hampton, 63, sustained skull fractures and other head injuries, and her husband, Anthony Hampton, 55, is said to have suffered psychological trauma.

The accident happened in October 2003, when the couple, from Yarm, Cleveland, had a weekend break in Edinburgh and were returning to the Caledonian Hotel.

The Court of Session heard that Mrs Hampton was hit by a bus as they crossed Princes Street just before 9pm. The couple are suing operator Firstbus.
