Residents Continue Battle To Stop Nursing Home Extension
Residents of an Edinburgh street have flooded the Scottish Government with protests about a proposed care home extension.
Householders on the quiet Morningside street are to relaunch the campaign against Ashley Court Nursing Home’s proposal to add nine rooms.
Under the proposals, which were booted out unanimously by the council but are subject to a Scottish Government appeal, the home would attach itself to a row of Edwardian terraced houses on Craighouse Avenue.
Now resident and environmental consultant Dr Peter Gibson, has urged ministers to reject the appeal. “The proposed extension has been dragging on for years and it goes over the same ground again and again,” he said.
“This continuing application is making a mockery of the planning procedure and is an abuse of public money.”
When owners Randolph Hill Group submitted plans to extend the 50-room facility a petition was instantly launched by locals saying it would destroy the character of the street and ruin views for both nursing home residents and neighbours.
No-one from Randolph Hill was available for comment.
