Inquiry On ‘Inappropriate Practice’ Claim At Residential School

An investigation has been launched into allegations of “inappropriate practice” at a residential school. The inquiry at Oakbank School in Aberdeen was sparked by a complaint from a member of staff.

It is being led by Aberdeen City Council, assisted by Grampian Police. Oakbank caters for children with social, emotional and behavioural problems.

Local authorities and social services from across Scotland refer children to the school, which was founded in 1878.

A council spokesman said: “We can confirm it is leading a child protection investigation in response to allegations of inappropriate practice at Oakbank School. The investigation is being carried out following guidelines by the North East of Scotland Child Protection Committee (NESCPC) with the co-operation of the school.

“Grampian Police form part of the multi-agency investigation. which is in its early stage.

“It would not be appropriate to make any further comment.”

Oakbank School board chairwoman Yvonne Allan said: “I have looked into the matter and I have been reassured by the investigating officers there is no need for the governors to take any action at this time.

“I have every confidence in the staff.”
