Health And Social Care Chief Nominated For NHS Board
Edinburgh’s health and social care leader Paul Edie has been formally nominated to represent the local authority on the Lothian health board. Each of the four councils in the NHS Lothian have one member on the board, which spends £1 billion every year on services.
City council chief executive Tom Aitchison said: “In accordance with guidance issued by the Scottish Executive, local authority members of NHS boards should enjoy the full confidence of their authorities and be able to commit to decisions on health and health service matters which could affect their local communities.”
The final decision on appointments rests with Health Secretary Nicola Sturgeon. West Lothian Council recently nominated hospital campaigner John Cochrane for its place on the board, a move initially opposed by NHS Lothian.
