Council’s Four Year Care Home Plan Unveiled
Highland Council’s administration has said it will commit to building new care homes and oppose the construction of new nuclear plants in the region.
The ruling Independent/SNP group has set out an action plan for the next four years. It has set targets on increasing the amount of waste that is recycled by households and council staff.
The administration has also made a pledge of employing more apprentices in its workforce. It will present its action plan the full council on 28 June for consideration.
Convener Sandy Park said: “Creating a green clean place for people to live work and play and supporting a culture of enterprise is at the core of our comprehensive programme.”
Some of the key pledges in the plan include the construction of five new care homes for older people and investing £4.7m annually in aids and adaptations to help with mobility difficulties.
Securing an increase of 600 sheltered housing units by the end of 2011 and working to increase the number of older people who can be supported in their own homes rather than institutional care.
