Special Needs Pupils Transferred
More than 20 pupils with special needs have been told they must leave their dedicated school and transfer instead to a mixed campus, a council has announced.
Overcrowding at the Isobel Mair School, Clarkston, has led East Renfrewshire education chiefs to decide to transfer seven senior pupils over the age of 16 to Williamwood High School.
A further 15 children in three primary classes at Isobel Mair will move to Carlibar Primary School in Barrhead.
The moves will take place from the start of the new term in August as a temporary solution to rising rolls at Isobel Mair where 59 pupils currently use accommodation planned for 55. The roll is projected to rise to 68 in August.
The new Isobel Mair School is due to be built at a site identified at Greenlaw in Newton Mearns in 2010-11.
East Renfrewshire Council was quick to point out that the transferred pupils will still be in “specialist accommodation”.
