Groups Vow To Win Cash Help For Disabled
Organisations representing disabled people have vowed to campaign for more funding from the Scottish Executive for independent living support.
An agreement has been reached between public sector union Unison and the Lothian Centre for Independent Living – and other groups elsewhere in Scotland – regarding the issue of direct payments, where money is handed out rather than social care services.
The system means people have greater choice and control over their lives, and are able to make their own decisions about how their care is delivered.
Peter Brawley, of the Scottish Personal Assistant Employers Network, said: “These payments are often vital for the person concerned.”
