Call For Scottish ‘Victims’ Tsar’
A Scottish charity has called on the Scottish Executive to appoint a dedicated victims’ commissioner. Victim Support Scotland said the person given the role would provide advice and assistance for victims, witnesses and their families.
In its manifesto, the charity is also proposing a priority housing scheme to help victims and witnesses move away from areas where offences took place. It also wants employers to be more sympathetic to staff affected by crime.
The charity, which is due to launch its Manifesto for Change, has trained volunteers across the country who can help victims of robberies and assaults with practical and emotional support. However, it said the executive should be doing more.
