Scotland Needs Continued Commitment To Homelessness
Shelter Scotland has praised the contribution former Communities Minister Malcolm Chisholm has made to housing and homelessness in Scotland, following news of his resignation.
The charity added that they hoped Malcolm Chisholm’s successor would have as strong a commitment to housing and homelessness issues in Scotland, not least the 2012 homelessness target.
Archie Stoddart, Director of Shelter Scotland, the housing and homelessness charity, said: “Malcolm Chisholm has shown strong personal commitment to his portfolio during his time as Communities Minister. His dedication to reaching the 2012 target of giving every unintentionally homeless person in Scotland a home was unwavering and we hope that he can bequeath this to his successor.
“We look forward to hearing who the new Minister for Communities is when the First Minister announces the appointment in the New Year. 2007 is a crunch year for housing in Scotland, with the comprehensive spending review giving us our last opportunity to secure increased investment in affordable housing for Scotland before the 2012 target.
“It is therefore imperative the new minister makes this case and delivers the increased investment for the affordable housing that Scotland desperately needs.”
