Care Home Pervert Is Snared By Record
A sex beast was behind bars last night after finally admitting a catalogue of abuse on children in his care. Former social worker John Marshall, 61, appeared at the High Court in Glasgow yesterday, five years after the Record helped snare him.
Dozens of victims came forward after we revealed Strathclyde Police Serious Crime Squad were investigating Marshall in 2001.
He molested girls and boys in their beds and even forced them to strip before taking depraved pictures of them.
Police collected a dossier on Marshall but he fled to Australia before they could arrest him.
Detectives tracked him to Queensland and flew out in July after being granted an extradition warrant.
Yesterday, Marshall admitted 14 charges of lewd and libidinous conduct. He was placed on the sex offenders register and remanded in custody pending sentence next month.
He preyed on kids at Eversley Children’s Home in Pollokshields, Glasgow, and Downcraig Care Home, Castlemilk, Glasgow, in the 1970s.
Prosecutor Bernard Ablett told the court that police were alerted when one male victim reported allegations in 1996 but no charges were brought.
The inquiry was re-opened after the man asked his MP, Patricia Hewitt, to intervene.
Mr Ablett said: “A full investigation then commenced by Strathclyde Police Serious Crime Squad, who were able to identify the assailant as the accused.”
