Carers Scotland appoint new director responsible for Scotland and Northern Ireland

Richard Meade has been appointed as the new director of Carers Scotland following the retirement of Simon Hodgson.

Meade was formerly the Head of Policy and Public Affairs, Scotland at Marie Curie, where he worked for over eight years. At Carers Scotland he will be responsible for leading the charity in Scotland and Northern Ireland.

Meade, who started with the organisation this month, said: “Carers Scotland is an excellent charity with a powerful vision of a society that recognises, values and supports carers. Scotland has seen unprecedented demands on unpaid carers over the last two years, struggling with their own health, financially and, crucially, accessing services they need.

“These next few years we need to see action from governments and communities to provide the support that carers need as we emerge from the COVID pandemic. I look forward to working with the charity and with partners to make life better for carers in Scotland.”

Helen Walker, Chief Executive of Carers UK, added: “We are really pleased to welcome Richard to the charity. He has led award winning campaigns and has a proven track record of working with governments and partners to deliver change. He has also worked with carers and understands the issues and challenges that need to be addressed if Carers Scotland is deliver on its 2025 vision.
