Inverclyde Care and Support at Home Service Praised

The quality of Inverclyde’s Care and Support at Home service has been praised in an official report.

The Care Inspectorate carried out an unannounced inspection of the service which aims to enable people to live as independently as possible in their own home.

Inverclyde Council’s Convener of Health & Social Care Councillor Robert Moran said: “I am delighted the Care Inspectorate has recognised the high quality of the service provided in Inverclyde and I would like to congratulate everyone involved.

“It is a prime example of how family, carers and the community work together to give older people what they have asked for – being able to live independently at home for as long as possible while being supported by flexible services.

“We expect to see the percentage of people over 65 in Inverclyde reaching nearly 30% over the next 10 to 15 years so it is vital we have the quality of services in place to secure a healthier, active life experience as we grow older.”

The Care Inspectorate report highlights the majority of people who use the service are very positive about the quality of care and support provided. Comments from users include:

“Staff are very friendly and professional and humorous which is good for my morale, couldn’t do without them.”

“Excellent care – the careers have been gentle and sympathetic. We can’t thank the service enough as it is a tremendous support to the family.”

“I have found the staff to be caring at all times. They take time to ensure my relative is safe and secure. They treat my relative with respect at all times. On a few occasions I have contacted the manager to request an alteration to the service. This has always been supported in a positive manner.”

Key findings of the report include the service continues to provide positive outcomes for people; performs well in terms of compliance, continuity, punctuality and timekeeping; works in partnership with health care professionals which has improved access to health care where required and the service has a robust system to investigate complaints.
