NIASW announce autumn series of Practice Development Days

The NI Association of Social Workers (NIASW) have announced details of a series of Practice Development Days on a number of topics between September and December 2015.

The first event takes place on 23 September and will look at ‘Understanding Sexual Offending through the Internet’. This full day event will be led by Marcella Leonard, independent social work consultant and Chair of NIASW and will take place in the NIASW office at Douglas House, Ormeau Road, Belfast. The cost is £25 for members and £50 for non-members.

On the morning of 14 October 2015 the subject of ‘Human Trafficking in Northern Ireland’ will be examined by Fidelma O’Hagan, anti-trafficking legal and policy advisor, Law Centre (NI). The cost for this event is £10 for members and £25 for non-members.

‘Older People, Loneliness and Day Centre Programming’ will be discussed by Robert Hagan, lecturer at Ulster University Magee on 18 November 2015 between 2pm and 4pm in Ulster University Magee, Derry. The cost for the event is £10 for members and £25 for non-members.

John Devaney, David Hayes and Trevor Spratt, senior lecturers at Queen’s University Belfast will examine the topic ‘Making Decisions about Children’s Admission to Care – how does this compare between Northern Ireland and three other countries?’ on a date to be confirmed. The location will be NIASW offices on 397 Ormeau Road, Belfast and the cost is £10 for members and £25 for non-members.

‘Perpetrators’ and partners’ perceptions of change processes related to an intimate partner violence perpetrator programme’ is the title of a seminar led by Tony McGinn, Social Worker, WHSCT. This will take place on the morning of 10 December 2015 at Ulster University Magee. The cost for this is £10 for members, £25 for non-members.
