Northern Ireland social work award winners announced
The 2015 Social Work Awards, recognising the efforts of social workers and highlighting the positive impact of the profession, have taken place at a ceremony at Belfast City Hall yesterday.
The Overall Winner title went to the Sharing the Care Team at the Northern Health & Social Care Trust, while Dr John Devaney of Queen’s University Belfast picked up the NIASW Lifetime Achievement Award.
A total of 90 social work teams and individuals from across Northern Ireland were nominated for this year’s awards.
From the nine categories, the winners were:

Physical Health and Disability: Incorporating Person-Centered Practice – Northern Health & Social Care Trust - Award 3 Partnership
Dementia Friendly Communities/ Mental Health Services for Older People – Northern Health & Social Care Trust (Mental Health & Older People), Alzheimer’s Society, Coleraine Borough Council and Public Health Agency - Award 4 Learning and Development
Social Services Training and Development Team – Western Health & Social Care Trust - Award 5 Children’s Services Individual
Steve Mack – Southern Health & Social Care Trust - Award 6 Adult Services Individual
Sarah Browne – South Eastern Health & Social Care Trust - Award 7 Newly Qualified Social Worker
Marie-Claire Quinn – Belfast Health & Social Care Trust - Award 8 NIASW Lifetime Achievement Award
Dr John Devaney – Queen’s University of Belfast - Award 9 Overall Winner
Sharing the Care Team – Northern Health & Social Care Trust
Fionnuala McAndrew (pictured), Director of Social Care and Children at the Health and Social Care Board congratulated the award winners: “I am privileged to work with so many talented and hard working social work professionals who go beyond the call of duty to make a difference to the lives of adults, young people and children in our communities right across Northern Ireland. Well done to all of you awarded!”
Those nominated for the awards work for a number of bodies and organisations across the country including the Health and Social Care Trusts, the Probation Board, the Education Sector and in a range of other statutory voluntary and community organisations.
