New residential care home to bring 100 jobs to village

A new £3m residential care facility in Dunmurry is to create 100 jobs. The 44-bed Kilwee Care Home in Cloona Park in the village was officially opened by the Mayor of Lisburn, Councillor Brian Heading.
The new home will complement the services of an existing unit on a neighbouring site and has been designed to accommodate specialist intermediate and dementia care in addition to residential nursing care.
It is the seventh home to be developed by the Magherafelt-based Conway Group.
Therese Conway, healthcare director of the Conway Group, said: “The opening of our second home in Dunmurry has come in response to the demand for this kind of quality care.
“The opening of Kilwee Care Home marks our continued success as a company, success that has been achieved by our commitment to the care of our residents and their families.”
Councillor Brian Heading said: “Northern Ireland has the fastest growing elderly population within the UK.
“The facility I have visited outlines the quality that is provided in the independent sector to meet the needs of older people.”
Meanwhile, the company which has taken over four former Southern Cross care homes in Northern Ireland has begun a UK-wide recruitment drive.
The jobs at HC-One offer salaries of £25,000 a year for a project administrator up to £150,000 for the role of quality director and it is believed some of the new staff will be located in Ulster care homes.
HC-One is a new operating company formed by landlord NHP and health and social care specialists Court Cavendish.
It will take over the 249 NHP-owned Southern Cross homes across the UK from the beginning of November.
In Northern Ireland, it will operate the Montague Care Home in Portstewart, the Marina Care Home in Ballyronan, the Rockfield Care Home in Newry and the Bramblewood Care Home in Bangor.
