Nursing Homes To Fight Cut In Fair Deal Scheme

The nursing home sector is warning that many elderly people and their families face hardship as a result of the Government decision to include the Fair Deal scheme in its spending cuts.

The scheme would have seen nursing home fees paid in part by the State.

A nursing-home resident would contribute 80% of their weekly pension in addition to a 15% levy on the value of their estate following their death.
