Nursing Homes To Face Strict New Rules On Standards
Nursing homes around the country are reportedly facing the prospect of having to undergo major modifications to comply with new regulations.
Reports this morning say new rules approved yesterday by the Health Information and Quality Authority set out more than 30 requirements covering the care and welfare of residents.
The rules include mandatory levels of training for staff, individual care plans for all residents, minimum bedroom sizes and limits on the number of patients per ward.
The changes are due to come into force later this year and will be enforced by a team of up to 90 HIQA inspectors.
