New Unit To Fight Human Trafficking
A new unit, dedicated to co-ordinating the implemention of a national strategy to tackle human trafficking, has been set up.
A senior official from the Department of Justice will be appointed by Minister Brian Lenihan to head the unit. Mr Lenihan said it would work closely with the gardai and the Irish National Immigration Service and would also engage with non-governmental organisations.
Co-operation with the UK would be particularly important in view of the common travel area.
