Crowd Attacks Drug Search Police
A crowd has attacked police carrying out drugs searches in Londonderry. Two officers sustained minor injuries after petrol bombs, fireworks, stones and bottles were thrown as they searched a house in the Brandywell.
Police seized cocaine, ecstasy and cannabis during the searches on Saturday evening.
A 51-year-old man is due to appear in court in the city on Monday. He will face charges of possession of drugs with intent to supply.
A 25-year-old woman has been released pending reports.
A group of local residents gathered on Sunday to show their support for attempts to tackle the drugs problem in the area.
Sinn Fein MLA and Policing Board member Martina Anderson said both the PSNI and people in the area needed to address the issue.
“The PSNI have a job to establish the trust of the community, and people welcome this initial response,” she said.
