Catholics Told To Stop Backing Amnesty International
Roman Catholics have been advised to stop donating to the human rights group Amnesty International because of its support for abortion in certain circumstances.
Cardinal Renato Martino said the financing of Amnesty by Catholic organisations would end, but Amnesty in Italy said it did not receive any Vatican or Catholic Church funding anyway.
In response, Amnesty said it was not promoting abortion as a universal right, but that women had a right to choose, particularly in cases of rape or incest.
