Funding available to support learning opportunities for NI domiciliary care workers

In December the Northern Ireland Social Care Council contacted social care employers across Northern Ireland to make them aware of available monies to support learning and development opportunities for Domiciliary Care workers.

The funding is available to pay for backfill/staff time across all levels (Domiciliary Care Workers, Domiciliary Care Worker Supervisors and Domiciliary Care Managers) to attend face-to-face events or undertake digital learning in enhanced (above Mandatory) training areas.

Priority training areas identified are:

  • Management of Dysphagia
  • Medicines Management
  • Continence Management
  • Outcomes Based Approaches
  • Loneliness and Social Isolation

In addition to these core areas other enhanced training is eligible.

This Transformation Funding, available on a ‘first come first served’ basis is anticipated to extend into the 2019/20 financial year.

The NISCC say while payment for training events cannot be funded, they are working with other partners, including RQIA and PHA, to deliver free training into this year.

If you feel you may benefit from this programme, you are urged to speak to your employer in the first instance or contact the Project Manager, Mervyn Bothwell, at the NISCC on [email protected] or 07436 584349.
