Belfast Trust launch new three-year strategy to supporting carers in city

The Belfast Health & Social Care Trust has launched a carers strategy entitled ‘Caring Together in Belfast’ – A Plan for Supporting Carers in Belfast 2017 – 2020.

The key priorities of the strategy are:

  • Reaching carers of all ages
  • Developing carer support pathways
  • Supporting carer health and wellbeing
  • Communicating with and involving carers

Trust Chairman Peter McNaney, CBE welcomed the launch of the new strategy and acknowledged all of those who contributed including the Carers Reference Group, carers, Trust staff and partners from the voluntary and community sector.

He said: “Carers play an important role in the Trust and they double the effect of what we do with the care they provide for families and friends. In the Belfast area there are approximately 44,000 people who have identified themselves as carers, and at least 36% of these carers are providing care for more than 20 hours a week.

“The vision of this strategy will be to deliver the highest quality support, for our carers living in the Belfast area and carers of people who use our regional services, and the enhancement of the range and quality of services provided for carers.”
