Hate crime probe after disabled man attacked and abused by gang
Police are investigating a disability hate crime after a man was targeted by a gang who followed him and hit him on the head with a stone.
The victim was walking with a friend along Moor Croft in Newbiggin, Northumberland, when a group of male youths approached and started to shout abuse about his disability.
His female friend left to get help but one of the attackers threw a stone at his head, causing him to fall and hit his head on the ground.
Northumbria Police said he was left shocked and distressed by the incident on Saturday evening and was taken to Cramlington Hospital for treatment.
Any witnesses or anyone who was in the area at the time has been asked to come forward.
Acting Inspector Michelle Caisley said: “We’re asking for help from the public to identify those responsible for this attack. We want to hear from anyone who can assist our inquiries.”
