Several island nursing home staff suspended over resident’s death

A number of nursing home staff have been suspended as police investigate the “unexplained” death of a 95-year-old female resident in the lead-up to Christmas.

Officers were informed the woman had passed away at the Beaconsfield Nursing Home, on the Isle of Man, on December 18.

In a statement, police said a joint investigation with the Department of Social Care Safeguarding Adults Team and nursing home managers had been launched.

Several staff members have been suspended “as a precautionary measure”.

The statement read: “The Coroner of Inquests has been notified and is aware of the ongoing investigation and a post mortem has been undertaken.”

It added: “Enquiries are ongoing and at this time Detective Inspector Mark Newey, leading the investigation, has underlined that they are treating the death as unexplained.”
