New £6m dementia care centre to create 100 jobs in Manchester
Dementia care specialist Kingsley Healthcare has announced plans for a £6m development that will create up to 100 jobs in Greater Manchester. Building work on the 62-bedroom purpose-built dementia care home in Partington, Trafford has begun and is scheduled for completion in June next year.
The project is part of a £230m plus expansion strategy launched by the Suffolk-based care provider earlier this year as it aims to become a national brand in five years.
Facilities at the new home in Wood Lane, split into four wings, will include a cinema, library, dementia café and large sun room. All rooms will be en-suite and for single occupancy, while outdoors will include a sensory garden.
Debbie Cank, Kingsley’s operations manager for the north West, said: “Our intention is to build a home that will be at the heart of the local community.
“A lot of good work has been done over the past couple of years in lifting the area and providing new youth activities; we will be playing our part by sponsoring some of these.”
She said the new facility would require a wide range of staff including home managers and deputies, nurses, care staff, support workers, chefs and activity co-ordinators.
“To open in June 2016 we will be taking staff on from April next year and training them at our nearby Timperley Care Home,” she said.
Kingsley has committed to invest £300,000 plus in a best practice training programme that will be delivered by the University of Stirling’s dementia services development centre throughout its homes.
