College of Social Work announce transfer of several resources to BASW
The British Association of Social Workers (BASW) is to take on a set of College of Social Work (TSCW) of key functions and resources ahead of the College’s closure in September.
After an Expressions of Interest process, the TSCW’s board agreed to the transfer of the following:
- The Professional Capabilities Framework (PCF) – the overarching professional standards framework
- A ‘CPD endorsement framework’ that can be used to endorse post-qualifying training programmes.
- Several College of Social Work publications
BASW Chair Guy Shennan (pictured) said: “We are delighted that TCSW wishes to transfer these functions and resources to BASW. We applaud the College for the work it has done in developing the Professional Capabilities Framework and the other resources that have been under consideration here, and we believe it is essential that they remain safeguarded by the profession.
“To hold and further develop these functions is entirely consistent with our 2020 Vision to be the strong independent voice of social work and social workers, and we believe will assist in the realisation of this vision.
“We look forward to working with the College over the next few days and weeks to enable the transfer to go ahead, and to continuing our dialogue with the three faculties to support the continuation of their important work”.
The transfer does not include work that the government had commissioned the College to carry out. The future of those functions, which include responsibility for hosting the principal social worker networks, will be decided by government-run tendering.
