Birmingham care workers in court over death

Two care home workers have reappeared in court accused of failing to seek medical help for an elderly resident who died after suffering a head injury.

Benter Ouma and Sabrina Hewitt are both alleged to have wilfully neglected 85-year-old Norah Boyle in September 2013.

Ouma, 31, and Hewitt, 39, are accused of failing to use proper manual handling procedures, causing a fall, and then giving false information which delayed proper medical treatment.

The offence is alleged to have taken place at The Green nursing home on Wharf Road, Kings Norton, Birmingham.

Ouma, of Summerfield Crescent, Edgbaston, and Hewitt, formerly of Uplands Road, Handsworth, spoke only to confirm their names during an administrative hearing at Birmingham Crown Court.

They were both granted unconditional bail to reappear for a plea hearing at the same court on March 23.

Their trial is expected to take place on June 22.
