Three charged with neglect after care home probe
Two care home owners and one of their employees have been charged with mistreating elderly residents.
The charges are the result of an investigation into alleged neglect at the Briarwood Rest Home in Lostock Hall, Preston.
Indranee Pumbien, 58 and Meghadeven Pumbien, 62, both of Grosvenor Place, Preston, who owned the home, were charged with several counts of being a carer involved in the ill treatment and wilful neglect of a person with lack of capacity contrary to the Mental Capacity Act 2005.
Niphawan Berry, 41, of Christ Church Street, Preston, who worked at the home, was charged with the same offence and one count of Section 20 wounding contrary to the Offences against the Person Act 1861.
The Pumbiens were also charged with committing an act with the intent to pervert the course of justice.
There are a total of 29 charges in relation to three male and five female victims aged between 88 and 99. The charges relate to a period between April 2013 and June this year.
All three defendants have been bailed to appear at Preston Magistrates’ Court on December 10.
